Cowdog and Dinner

Aunt Bec went out one time when the cowdogs were eating that nasty dinner. This cowdog would have preferred to eat her dinner in peace.

Are you staring at me? Don't you know it's rude to stare?

If I ignore you, will you go away?

What? Is there something stuck between my teeth?

What is up with this woman? She is really getting on my nerves. Maybe if I just duck behind here?

Oh, chicken feathers! She's still here!

So I have a healthy appetite. Do you know how much work it takes to maintain this figure?

Perhaps she's not looking at me ... nope no one else around. I guess she IS looking at me.

Maybe if I move to the other side of the dinner table, she won't follow me ...

Ok, Honey, you want to stare? We'll stare!

Chow Time! (But Not for Us)

Hey! What's going on over there? Can anybody tell what's happening?

Wow! Look at the size of that green thing and look at the size of the cows' dinner! Mr. Farmer needs a forklift to carry it! Mom can carry our dinner in her hands.

Those cows sure are patient. If our dinner was that close to us we would be going crazy. Mr. Farmer is unrolling the bale and the cows just stand there and watch him. Why don't they just dive in and start eating? Speaking of eating, is there anything around here for us to eat? You two keep an eye on them and we'll check around.

Aaahhh! Yummm! Chow Time! (Not that it really looks very yummy to us but the cows seem to be enjoying it.)

We never did find anything to eat. But we looked at Mom and Aunt Bec and they found treats for us. It's good to have servants.

We Think Mom Failed Film-making 101

Mom says it's not impressive but the doggies are cute. We hope you will be gentle since Mom didn't want to spend too much time working on it so we could get this posted.

Our Trip - Part 2

Once we were up and running for the day, Mom and Aunt Bec fed us. Aunt Bec made coffee for herself and tea for Mom and then they sat outside to watch the sunrise and watch us chase shadows. The cowdogs were all around us so we had to be vigilant.

We spotted one trying to get to us from the front gate. We chased her off.

Because we were surrounded, we posted sentries at the corners to keep a lookout for other intruders. Jake is stretching to get a little better look around.

Roxie is on the patrol.

Later on Roxie and Maggie checked out the fence line together. They told us they would let us know if they found way to escape to the field again.

In between all of this, we had to check on Mom and Aunt Bec to make sure they had plenty of opportunities to pet us and give us treats. It was a busy day. We were ready for the sun to set so we could get some sleep.

(This is a pretty sunset from an earlier visit. The sky was so clear this time, Mom couldn't get any pictures with color so she's taking poetic license with this one.)

Tomorrow we will tell you about our last day there and the fun things we did. Aunt Bec took a video with Mom's camera but didn't turn it off soon enough. If Mom can figure out a way to edit it and cut the end off ... we will have our first video for you!

Our Trip - Part 1

A bunch of stuff happened before we left but it was all boring stuff Mom did. Once that was over, Aunt Bec showed up with Maggie and Jake. Everybody got into the car and off we went.

When we got to the country, Mom and Aunt Bec let us out of our crates and put us in the yard so they could unload our stuff. We ran off and found ... A SECRET ESCAPE FROM THE YARD!!! Mom and Aunt Bec were busy so we slipped out and ran for the cowdogs. Aunt Bec looked up and realized some of the cowdogs were really short ... and red ... and looked like dachsies. She called to Mom and you should have seen those two old ladies move! Aunt Bec grabbed our leashes and started walking toward us and Mom went into the yard to find the secret escape. Mom said she should have taken a picture but she was so worried about us and the cowdogs, that she wanted us in the yard more than she wanted a picture. She found our secret escape and was going to close it but then she saw Andy. She called to him and the silly boy went running to Mom. So much for his freedom. Jake, Sammy and Roxie were with the cowdogs and Aunt Bec got leashes on them and we all had to come back to the yard. It was fun! We have never had that much open space to run in. But, you know, we bark at the cowdogs a lot more when there is a fence between us and them. Those things are REALLY BIG when you get up close to them.

But, as we found out later, the secret escape was closed for the rest of time we were there. You can bet we will check it the next time we are out there!

This is Sammy looking at Mom because she closed the secret escape. Sammy is very brave and he wanted to get to know the cowdogs better but Aunt Bec interfered.

This is Andy wondering why he came when Mom called. He didn't get to run free on the open plains with his ears flapping in the wind.

After that, we got dinner, ran around in the yard and then it was bedtime. Mom and Aunt Bec go to bed early when we go to the country because they know we are going to wake up at 5:30 (or 6:00, if they are really lucky) and we are going to stay awake. They figure they might as well get their sleep early and drink coffee and tea to wake up in the morning.

This is what it looks like from the front porch really early in the morning ...
