Our good friend Bobkat had an interesting challenge on her blog. One of her friends gave her the letter D. She needed to use as many words that started with her letter and describe why she included them. Well, she gave us the letter S so here we go.
What self-respecting dachsie could start this with anything other than
SNACK We live for snacks! They get us through the day and they get us to do what Mom wants us to do. We do just about anything for a snack up to and including theft. Not that we have EVER taken anything from Mom's plate.
SLEEP Okay, maybe we aren't always on the prowl for snacks. If you know doggies, you know how much we love to sleep. Naps are a major part of our day. If pee and poop (don't go there) started with S you would have our lives in one letter.
SILLY We don't really think we are silly but Mom suggested this word because she says we make her laugh with our antics and playfulness. We would like to go on the record as disagreeing with this interpretation of our actions. We are serious guard dogs. We pay close attention to our responsibilities.
SNORING Mom strikes again. We think this describes her more than us but she seems to disagree.
SQUIRRELS We are mighty hunters. We caught and killed one of these when we lived in Houston. The ones in the country are too fast (or maybe it has something to do with all of the trees they have for escape routes). Anyway, we love to chase and bark at them. You haven't lived if you haven't chased a squirrel!
SUBMISSIVE Did you really think we were going to take this word as our own. No way. We are dachsies and we rule! It is a lot of work but we occasionally bend Mom to our will. She is the submissive one around here if you ask us!
STRONG Enough said.
SUNSHINE We love the sunshine. We love to lay in the sunshine. We love to sleep in the sunshine. We love to be lazy in the sunshine. We love to eat snacks in the sunshine. Do we need to explain this further?
SPAY and neuter We wish all pet owners would spay and neuter their pets. We don't need to have babies and make the pet population worse. Too many of us don't have homes and are euthanized each day.
SHRED The perfect thing to do to stuffies after taking out the squeaker and stuffing.
SNUGGLE The best thing to do on a cold winter morning with Mom in the big bed. It is usually done with sleeping so it is a win-win situation for us.
We would like to add STEAK, SALMON, SPAGHETTI, SAUSAGE or SHRIMP but we have never had the pleasure of trying them so we don't have first hand knowledge. To Mom, we SUGGEST that we have the opportunity to try these so we can report to our friends. For the record, SUGGESTIONS do not normally have the desired result.

Our Friendship Award
Two weeks ago, our really, really good friends at Barking Loud, Crikit, Sparky & Ginger, gave us this award. Mom was so busy mailing out our 145 cards and her 25 cards (tee hee!) that she just now has time to let us tell Crikit, Sparky & Ginger "Thank you for the award and thank you for being our friends!"
They also tagged us to tell 8 random facts about ourselves. But first we have to post the rules.

1. The only people food we have ever had is lowfat cottage cheese (because it is good for our skin and coats). Well, Sammy or Andy might have had some people food before living with Mom but no one is telling.
2. Andy likes to be scratched on his breastbone. He kicks his back leg when you do this.
3. Sammy lived in (at least) 6 other places (breeder, buyer, shelter, foster, 1st adoption, 2nd adoption) before he came to live with Mom (and that is assuming he went back to the same foster family after two failed adoptions). This is his 7th (and FINAL) home (though the house will change when we finish building).
4. Sammy & Andy still pee in the house.
5. Roxie was born on Christmas Day.
6. Andy LOVES tennis balls.
7. Even though we are not well trained (serious understatement here), we go into the day pen and our crates without any trouble. Of course, we get our treats when we do it.
8. Mom does not use physical punishment on us. She has a spray bottle with water in it. She just has to pick it up now and we stop what we are doing.

Hello everydog. This is Andy again. Mom said I might have been a little egotistical in my last post so she is making me re-do "Bug"

I hope Mom is happy now. She doesn't want you to think I am all conceited or anything. It just that I'm always last so I wanted to really talk up myself! Which one makes you think of me?

And finally I get to play the game. This is Andy. One of these days I hope I get to play the game first. By the time I play, no one is interested anymore.

Hmm ... I don't have a middle name either. Maybe we need to talk to Mom about being so lazy and only giving us one name ... But, like Roxie, she does call me a few different names. She calls me Sammy, Samwell, Sammers, Samwell Barkameous, and Big Boy. Since Barkameous sounds like a middle name, I'm going to use it.
B - Brave (You thought is was going to be something about barking, didn't you? That's okay because I do bark a lot but mostly I am brave.)
A - Always hungry (If you opened a 20 pound bad of dog food and left it with me, I would try to eat the whole thing. Okay, I don't know that for sure because Mom has never tried it but I'm willing to experiment!)
R - Red Bear (Red Bear was my favorite toy for a long, long time until he lost all of his stuffing. I still have a red bear but now he is green but I love him just the same.)
K - Kind (Sometimes I am not kind but I clean Roxie's and Andy's ears for them all of the time. That's a very kind thing to do.)
A - Alert (I notice any sound and sound the alarm! Nothing is going to get to my mom if I can help it.)
M - Marvelous color (Mom says it was my coat color that attracted her to me. I love that color because it found me a wonderful home!)
E - Energetic (I can run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and ...)
O - Outgoing (Mom says it's just too bad I'm not always outside when I'm going ...)
