Hey, everybody! It's Monday and not much is happening around here. Mom wasn't feeling on top of the world today so she stayed home with us. She kept us in our jail most of the day but sometimes she would sit on the sofa and let us make sure she was getting better.
Maybe Mom is scared of the birds (see previous post). Our friends were telling us about the movie "The Birds" so we asked her about it. That movie sounds really scary! Now we are glad she didn't take us to chase away those birds. What if they had gotten mad at us? And Mom says, yes, you need to be careful when you around so many birds. When they take off to fly, they leave "presents" behind that you don't want in your hair. Mom says that, so far, she has been able to get through the bird area without any incidents ... that she can see. She drives an SUV and she is short, so she doesn't really know what is happening on the top of it.
We are still hoping Mom will go to PetsMart. She used the last of our canned dog food and we are only getting kibble and cottage cheese. It's okay but we always eat the one little bite of canned food that she serves to us before we eat anything else. It's yummy! You would think she would plan ahead better. She has hungry children to feed!
Well, we need to go check on Mom. She is being very quiet and that's usually when she is getting into something she isn't supposed to mess with.
Happy Chinese New Year to all of our friends who are celebrating!
Life is good. We are four dachshunds living in central Texas USA. Three of us and Mom used to live in Houston but we moved to the country and we love it! We bark at cows and birds and rabbits and turtles and squirrels ... we even barked at a copperhead snake but he didn't like it and that turned into an adventure best not repeated. Come read all about our lives!

Grackles, Grackles Everywhere
We were reading Isabella's blog about the Invasion of Birds and it got us to thinking about Mom's drive home every evening. She says mostly there are few birds to see but, once she gets to the intersection of a major street (three lanes each way plus turn lanes) and the freeway (six lanes of freeway and six lanes of service/frontage roads), there are grackles everywhere! She decided to take her camera with her to work so she could take pictures and show us when she got home. Check this out! (Oh, click on the pictures to get the full effect ... you can see each bird.)

Almost all of the space on the wires has birds sitting on it. If you look again, you will see there are even a couple of birds sitting on top of the post!
But that wasn't all of the birds. Here is another picture.

Mom says it is like this every evening when she drives through there. After she passes this intersection, then it is back to one or two birds.
We suggested that Mom take us to work and we would bark at the birds and chase them away. She said that she probably would not do that. We would lose our voices barking at all of those birds and she thinks they are used to lots of noise if they can stand to hang around a busy intersection in Houston during rush hour.
(Our apologies for the quality of the pictures. Mom was sitting in her car at the stop light when she took the pictures so she didn't have a lot of opportunity to work with the camera.)

Pretty Birds
Hey everybody! We are back! Actually, we have been back since Sunday night but Mom was too tired to help us post. And then she had to work Monday night and run reports. And then she has been tired every night but we said we HAD to post something so everyone would know we are back and okay.
Our cardinal was back again. Here is a picture where you can see his face. Mom says this guy was hard to get because he wouldn't look at her so she could get more than his back. We have tons of pictures of his back if you want to see how red it is.

But Mr. Cardinal isn't the picture that Mom is proudest to show you. She sat FOREVER to get a picture of one of the hummingbirds. These guys move so fast that you have to have the camera ready and you start shooting as soon as he is in the area. You know all those pictures we have of Mr. Cardinal's red back? Well we have lots and lots of pictures of the hummingbird feeder. No hummingbird, just the feeder. So you can see why Mom was glad to get this one.

We have some other pictures to show you from our trip but right now Mom is yawning and we think bed time is here.
Like we said, she has been tired but it was important to let all of our friends know we haven't left them. We are here just not always on line.
