Bad Doggie!

Hello everydog, cat and Fufu,

Andy here.

Boy was I in trouble last night. It was raining and thundering most of the evening. It started coming down really hard near Mom's office about 15 minutes before she usually leaves to come home. Since she could see all the cars just stopped because some of the roads had deep water on them, she decided to stay at the office a little longer. She finally got home about an hour and half later than normal.

Anyway, we went outside and did our business. We came back in and had dinner. We laid on the sofa with Mom while she watched a little television and then we went outside before it was time to go to bed.

Mom leaves us out for a while when it is wet outside because she knows we will eventual do what we need to do. So after about 5 minutes or so, she opens the back door. In runs Sammy. She looks outside but she doesn't see Roxie or me so she closes the door and puts Sammy in his crate. She comes back to the back door and opens it so Roxie can come running inside. Roxie goes into her crate. Mom comes back to the back door and starts whistling and calling for me but I don't come.

And I don't come.

And I don't come.

Mom is starting to get a little worried that maybe I got hurt and can't come when she calls so she gets her flashlight (torch for some of you folks) and goes out into the soggy, "water standing everywhere because it hasn't drained off yet" back yard. Fortunately it wasn't raining anymore! She is in sandals so her feet are getting all wet. She goes over to the magnolia trees and shines the light through the limbs but it is so dark she can't really see anything. She wades back behind the garage where the water is standing one or two inches deep, shining the flashlight all over the place. She looks under the magnolia trees again. Mom is really getting worried now. She decides she needs a better flashlight so she can see under the tree and heads for the house. About that time she hears some tags jingling behind her from under the tree and I decided to poke my head out. If she hadn't been so worried that I was hurt or something, I would have been in real trouble. Instead she was just glad to see me and I was okay and now we could all go to bed ... after she dried off her feet.

The moral of this story is: If you aren't going to be good and come when they call, wait until they are over being mad and are worried before you do finally show up. But be careful. Sometimes she closes the door and doesn't come back for a long, long time. By then you are really ready to come back in!

Rain & Cheese

Dog!

Sammy here.

Let me tell you it was a long and frustrating night. It thundered and lightning flashed and I barked and barked. Mom let me sleep with her last night and, in the middle of the night, I barked really loud in her ear. I didn't mean to wake her, it's just that I could hear suspicious noises outside. She would put me back under the covers and I would calm down for about two seconds and then I would hear something else. You know I'm the big boy dog of the family so it is my responsibility to protect Mom and my brother and sister. Roxie has never had anything bad happen to her so she doesn't realize the danger. Andy ... well Andy is just a kid. He spends his days chasing tennis balls and rolling over for tummy rubs. I don't have time for that. I have to protect our home so at 4:00 in the morning I'm awake and telling the thunder and lightning to stay away from my mommy!! Unfortunately, I haven't been completely successful because I can still hear it in the distance.

But I must have done something right because ...

We got a treat in our breakfast! If you had asked us yesterday what cheese was like we would have only been able to tell you about cottage cheese which is yummy and we always eat it first but ... this morning Mom had some cheddar cheese that she decided to cut into cubes and put in our food bowls. Let me tell you, that was just about the yummiest thing I have ever tasted. I checked with Roxie and Andy and they both ate up all of their cheese. (Darn, I was hoping they wouldn't like it and I would get to eat theirs!) We looked at Mom with our best cute and lovable dachsie looks but she said that was all of it she had. (Double Darn!) We hope she gets some more cheese and decides to share with us. I just need to figure out how to tell her that we need our calcium for strong teeth and bones ... (Mom realized AFTER we had gobbled up the cheese that she should have taken a picture for evidence. Too bad.)

Well, I need to go check on the thunder and lightning. A dog's work is never done!
