Stuff that is good to know ...

Since it is Spring (north of the equator) and people are beginning to think about improving or updating their landscaping, we decided to make a quick post about things that are bad for furbabies. Here is a list of common plants that are poisonous to animals. This list was compiled by the Humane Society of the United States. Most of you know that some plants can hurt or even kill us but you may not know how common some of them are. You can follow the link to find out about harmful plants. You might even want to bookmark it so you can refer to it later. Here is a list of plants found in Australia (which lists a lot of the same plants), because we want to take care of our friends there also. We have friends in other places. If you want us to look for a list for you, let us know. This can happen to anydog. Mom has a friend whose dog died after eating part of a Sago palm (which is on the list).

While we were at the Humane Society page, we saw that they had a list of foods that are harmful to us too! You can click here to see some of those. Most humans know that caffeine (found in chocolate, coffee, tea, cola) is bad for us, but did you know that onions and grapes are bad for us too? How about walnuts? We guess this means we will never get to try Mom's chocolate chip cookies. They smell really good when they are baking ...

Hi Roxie Sammy and Andy
Thanks for this. There is never any chocolate in our house so not much chance of that. I am pleased to see strawberries, cheese, buttered toast, and tomato juice are not on the list. I will tell mistress to make sure she keeps checking for things like this. Ruffs, Pippa.

That's really informative. Thank dog Mom doesn't allow me to sniff or much less go near any plants. Too bad about the chocolates!! I wouldn't mind eating that.

That's all good things to know. Emmy and I never get a chance to eat any plants because our yard isn't fenced in so we are always on leads and with the Humans when we are outside. But given the chance, Emmy will eat anything.....and I mean ANYTHING..she can get in her mouth. We didn't know walnuts were bad for dogs, but I don't think we have ever eaten any.

Oh- and don't worrry about the map- trust me, the bad people aren't the type to use computers, let alone read dog blogs. But they already know who Linda is and where she lives because she has walked over there to yell at them, much to Mike's dismay- hee hee!

Hey Dachsies. Good idea to post these lists. A couple of years ago a cat died in the UK from licking lily pollen from it's fur. Lillies are extremely popular cut flowers over here and yet very few people know about the dangers posed by many plants to their pets.

So nice of you to let us know about all those things that make us get sick. Thanks a lot. Kisses from Mexico.
