It's Probably Copper's Fault!

Sammy here.

I can't believe what happened to me. I'm sure it happened because Copper wrote about getting stuck in the closet! I was minding my own business ... that probably isn't completely true ... I was following Mom around hoping she would go to the treat box and give me something. She went into the utility room (where the washer and dryer are) to put something away and then went back to the main part of the house. Only she didn't know I had followed her in there. She always closes the door since the next door goes to the outside world and it is outside of our fence. She doesn't like us in there unless we are on our leases and she is holding them.

Anyway, she closed the door and I was still in there. It wasn't as bad as Copper's experience because it wasn't dark but there weren't any toys or Roxie or Andy or Mom or food. Well, there was a bag of trash that Mom put in there to take out the next time she went outside.

Anyway, from what I understand from Roxie and Andy, Mom sat on the couch and started reading her book. She pet Roxie. She pet Andy. She wondered where I was but figured I had gone outside and was entertaining myself. She came back here and checked her email. She went back to the couch and watched a TV show. She pet Roxie. She pet Andy. She wondered where I was and got up and looked outside. I could hear her calling me. She went into the back yard and wandered around, surprised that I didn't run up to her. She came back here thinking maybe I got locked in the computer room. (Mom has this thing about closing doors to rooms she isn't using so we can't go into them.)

Anyway, she looked in my crate and walked all around the den and kitchen and the breakfast room. FINALLY she thought to look in the utility room. She opened the door and I ran out. It was lonely in there without anybody to play with and no petting and no treats. Mom felt really bad for locking me in there. Since there are two other dogs, she didn't notice for the longest time (probably close to an hour!!!) that I was missing.

Then she remembered the bag of trash ... but I was a good boy. I didn't tear any holes in it. I didn't spread any of the trash around. I just sat quietly and waited for her to come let me out. And ... she felt so bad, she let me sleep in the big bed with her last night!! I love to curl up next to Mom and go to sleep in the big bed.

But, I'm sure it's Copper's fault since he got locked in the closet. It would have never happened to me otherwise.

Poor Sammy! A whole hour locked in there by yourself? And you didn't tear the trash up or even bark? I would have freaked, dude! Wow- you are so good! I bet your mom was really proud of you. And good going- getting to sleep in the big human bed! Wow- I have never gotten to do that. And you sure did deserve it!

I am sooo sorry Sammy. You must be a polite and sweet dog like me to not bark at your Mom to come get you. I didn't even think to bark, I just waited. Maybe you will get another chance at the trash though. Holly always told me that there is GOOD stuff in the trash.

Wow, I'd have been worried. Of course if I was there with a good chew toy...

Mom sometimes gets mad at me cause I follow her all over the house. She says she's afraid she'll step on me!

Oh my dog, you poor thing, Sammy!

Hmmm, I'm thinkin' wasted opportunity with that trash though.

You must have great self-discipline and be very polite.

Me, I'd be in that bag and digging away in next-to-no time to keep myself entertained.

Chow for now,

Hey dachshies. No my Mom likes smooth red dachshunds too. Holly was a smooth red. I just came into ther life and she fell in love with me. Our next door neighbor is a vet and some friends/clients of hers had these black and tan puppies and they brought them (us) over to show my Mom because the vet had told her she "needed" another doxie. I was the friendliest and I was a long haired so she PICKED ME! After that, Hershsy's Mom just looked around and foun Hershey from a breeder. Stay out of closets and laundry rooms.

Ok then, that just proves that humans, while caring and lovable, can be really ditzy at times. Take my human for instance (really, take my human please!)

This happens to my sister, Isis, a lot. (I'm proud to say it really never happens to me!) She somehow manages to always sneak by my human pet's feet into the linen closet, the clothes' closet, and even into the entry way closet. She's always so upset that she gets in there, but I tell her all the time if she would just stop following my human pet, then she wouldn't end up all alone in the dark. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, Sammy!
